Dinner as a goodbye...

After talking with Jelani in the Nexus, Connor returns to the place he's starting, tentatively, to think of as home base. He tucks the envelope full of money away in his suitcase, and takes roughly two minutes to pack, because he's been living out of it anyway.
Then he goes to the kitchen, and rummages, and gets to work. A chocolate cake comes first, made from scratch. While that's cooling he starts on dinner; chicken breasts stuffed with broccoli and cheese, rice pilaf, a little more steamed broccoli in case what's in the chicken isn't enough.

He has to tell Kairos that he's going back to his world, just long enough to get things in order and talk to Duncan, but he's not sure how long that will be.

After it's over, though, this is where he plans to return to.

"Maybe. Is it working?" He grins.

"You could have me on top of the table if you wanted. Yes. Chocolate cake." she nods seriously. "And kisses from Connor!"

"I can think of more comfortable places." He grins, and kisses her deeply, then gets a good grip and transfers her gently back to her chair. "You want coffee with dessert?"

Kairos goes easily enough, and wiggles a bit, suddenly filled with energy. Gosh. "Me too! And.. sure. With lots of sugar and milk.." She likes cappuccino. Not coffee, but she'll fake it.

Cappuccino would be good, if it wasn't for the need to figure out the cappuccino machine for it. Connor knows how to work the coffee maker, but his skills with modern technology are limited.
"Sweet like you?" She gets a last kiss, and then one on the forehead, as if he's having trouble tearing himself away. It takes him a moment to collect their dishes, and go find some decaf. Leftovers can wait to be put away.

She smiles impishly. "Maaaybe." She watches him - she's got half a mind to help, but the truth is, she sort of likes being waited on by a handsome, sweet man.

Her view might be better if his clothes weren't so shabby. The backside that's to her while he makes coffee is nice, but the jeans are a little baggy because they're old. Over his shoulder he calls, "So you're saying you only look sweet?" He's grinning.

"Maybe you should find out for yourself. I promise I don't taste like chicken!" Wiggle wiggle. She idly wonders if he'd get pissed off or offended if she took him clothes shopping.

He chuckles softly, and brings over small plates, forks, and a knife, then the cake. "You're going to taste like chocolate cake, after this."

She can always offer, although it's just possible Duncan will harass him into it. Connor wouldn't be angry or offended, though, he'd just groan. Clothes shopping is one of those things he only does when he absolutely has to.

Kairos grins. "Bet I'd taste better." She watches him bring everything over, then she'll take the knife from him and start slicing. Her piece is pretty impressive, but not gluttonous. "How big?" She looks up at him innocently.

"I'll have to test that." He grins, and shrugs in response to the question. "A little smaller, I guess?" Because he knows he hasn't been good at finishing his food lately.

His slice is only a haresbreath smaller than hers, but it is technically "a little smaller'. "You are more than welcome to!"

He'll do his best, but he'll never finish it if she distracts him too soon.
"Better eat dessert, first." Connor is looking forward to a little cuddling on the couch, tonight.

"Yes sir." And she'll go ahead and dig in, happily.

He takes a few bites, then has to get up to fetch the coffee, fixing hers with lots of milk and sugar, and his own with just milk. Bringing both cups over, he settles in again, looking content.

"thank you," she says softly. She takes a sip, and it's good. She doesn't say anything about how content he's looking, but it doesn't stop her from smiling a little.

"You going to finish this before I get back?" He gestures at the cake, and sips his coffee. It's turning out to be a good evening, and he's comfortable with the knowledge that he's welcome back here after his visit.

She nods her head. "Yeah. Especially if I see Hyou. He's got a bigger appetite than my own. Did you want me to save you a piece?"

"I haven't met him yet. Am I supposed to meet your friends sometime?" He's not sure if he's looking forward to that or not. "Don't worry about it. I can always make another one."

"He's got little kids. Three under 10. He teaches them, so he's always busy. Plus his mates keep him busy, too."

"...Mates, plural?" One eyebrow rises, but he's not too shocked. "Nothing can keep you busy like young children." He smiles wistfully, speaking from experience.

"Mmhm. He'd been with Casciel for years. They grew up together in slavery. Cassie was the slave-wife of a guy named Jarrod, and Hyou was kept as a housecat." She doesn't think to elaborate on that. "Years later, after Jarrod died, they met a guy named Kage. He's..well." She pauses, frowns. "Kage loves his family."

Connor blinks, and eats his cake slowly, processing all this. Only half of what she's just said made sense to him, but he also knows he's got a lot to learn about the Nexus, still. "...Okay. You make Kage sound like somebody without a lot of good points." He's picked up on that, of all things, because he wonders if anybody's ever floundered around and ended up describing him that way.

Kairos cuts off a bit of cake with her fork. "I don't think it's that he's a bad guy, per se. He's just.. He doesn't like me very much. And when Kage does not like you, it's very apparent."

He nods, and eyes her levelly. "I know you like me, now, but I'm sure there's a lot of people out there who'd say the same about me."
